OUR APPROACH

At The de Paul School, students receive instruction:

  • That matches their learning needs
  • From exceptional educators
  • In a culture where they are known, understood, and liked
This approach equips students for independence and success at their next school and beyond.

INSTRUCTION THAT MATCHES THEIR LEARNING NEEDS

Our lessons are designed to start at the student’s current skill level and build incrementally from there. Our curriculum addresses the key concepts and skills that unlock student potential for success in school and life beyond de Paul.

The 5 Pillars of Effective Instruction, de Paul’s proprietary, evidence-based and multi-sensory approach, has helped thousands of students find success over the past 55 years.

Our approaches use the latest brain science to maximize learning. This includes Mind Brain Education (also known as the Science of Learning), an interdisciplinary field that integrates research in neuroscience, psychology, and education.

“I remember immediately feeling safe and seen when I started de Paul. It was a significant shift from feeling stupid and behind, to being told I was intelligent and encouraged to explore different learning methods to find what worked best for me. Transferring to de Paul helped me repair and build my love of learning.”

Austin Dahlem, ‘04 P.E., civil engineer + de Paul alumnus

Delivered by exceptional educators

Our teachers are experts in teaching the way our students’ minds are designed to learn. They craft each day’s learning experiences using established and emerging brain science, while assuring each student is equipped with the mindset, knowledge and skills to achieve their highest aspirations.

In a classroom setting, a teacher is sitting with a student at a desk, engaging in a focused discussion, while other students read in the background.

“Teaching at The de Paul School is a dynamic and constantly evolving process. Passionate teaching involves finding the most effective, most pedagogically sound, most engaging strategies and then blending them with my understanding of how our students’ with dyslexia and ADHD best learn.”

A school culture where they are known, understood, and liked

At de Paul, the foundation of every child’s social and emotional development are built into each day. In Personal and Social Success class, students learn skills for executive function, emotional regulation, and social problem solving, and these are reinforced throughout all their classes each day. Every educator is a part of the team to help students develop skills related to growth, community, responsibility, and self-control.

“Children with learning differences often struggle with low self-esteem and may even dislike their individuality. We set the restoration of our students’ self-worth and dignity to as high a priority as their education.”

Phil Howell, Interim
Head of School
