Language Arts

Students should read at least 20 minutes each day.

  • Try to choose both fiction and nonfiction books.
  • Remember to participate in the Louisville Free Public Library Summer Reading Program to earn cool prizes and awards.
  • In addition to your 20 minutes of reading, practice reading sight words.

Students should write daily. Suggestions:

  • Keep a daily journal or diary.
  • Email or write letters to friends or family members.
  • Write and send postcards from summer vacation sites to family and friends.
  • Send stories you write to past teachers or family members.
  • Take pictures of your summer vacation and make a scrapbook, writing down captions for each picture.
  • Remember, you can stop by our local educational stores (KSS and Parent Teacher Store) for workbooks and materials for summer practice

Students should practice the following skills:

  • Math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Adding and subtracting large numbers
  • Long multiplication and long division
  • Adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers
  • Multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers
