Admissions Procedure and Information

We have developed a process to answer your questions about your child's needs and The de Paul School's program. Interested families should follow this process in order.

1. Contact Our School

Please call Katie Sanderson , the Admissions Associate, at (502) 459-6131, extension 231, or you can send her an e-mail , or you can use our on-line form to contact us . She welcomes your questions about our school and can provide information about learning differences. She will listen to your concerns about your child's needs. Mrs. Sanderson can send you information about our programs and how we address the needs of our students. This packet will include a checklist to help you determine whether your child may have a specific learning difference.

2. Visit Our School

Parents are invited to visit our school and see our teachers and students at work. These visits are arranged as your schedule permits and designed so that parents can view working classrooms. This tour provides the opportunity to learn details about our program. At this time, you will also meet the Director of Admissions, Peggy Woolley.

3. Admissions Testing

After visiting our school, the next step may be to evaluate whether de Paul is a good match for your child's needs. Admissions testing provides information about your child's academic strengths and weaknesses, processing deficits, and potential to work within de Paul School classes. Testing from outside sources may be required to complete this process. Mrs. Sanderson or Mrs. Woolley can schedule all assessments for prospective students.

4. Parent Conference and Recommendation

Within two weeks of the admissions assessment, Mrs. Woolley will hold a conference with parents to review the test results and discuss the school's recommendations. This information will focus on whether one of de Paul's programs is appropriate for your child.

5. Student Conference and Visit

After determining that a student would benefit from enrollment in de Paul, the student comes to the school for a conference. At this meeting, Mrs. Woolley shares appropriate information from the evaluation, including the student's strengths and academic needs. The goal of this meeting is to "demystify" the student's learning differences.

Your child tours the school during this visit. The visit may also include viewing or participating in classes, meeting with teachers, and/or conferring with other school representatives.

6. Application and Financial Aid

Enrollment for the following school year and/or tutorial program begins in March. Visits and admissions assessment are available throughout the year, and students can be enrolled as long as appropriate openings are available.

When your child has been determined to be eligible for de Paul, you will receive an enrollment packet. Families are encouraged to complete and submit these forms promptly, as openings are limited.

Financial aid is available to qualifying families. The amount awarded is based on a family's financial need and the financial aid fund balance. These funds are distributed beginning with March applications, and continue to be awarded as long as funds are available.

Tuition can be paid as a lump sum or spread out in equal payments. Our Business Manager, Steve Harris , welcomes your questions regarding tuition payment plans.

7. Welcome to The de Paul School!

As an enrolled student, your son or daughter will participate in instruction which is tailored to meet one's academic, social, and organizational needs. Your child will "learn to learn" in a caring, highly organized, and calm school setting. Expectations for personal success are high. If your child is eligible for enrollment, we believe you've made the best possible choice for your child's future.
